Give Help

Volunteer

Volunteers are the life blood of foodbanks. Your skills could be just what we need.

Volunteers are the driving force behind foodbanks. There are thousands of volunteers across the UK, helping The Trussell Trust Foodbank Network get emergency food to people in crisis. We want you to enjoy volunteering and there are lots of ways to get involved. Whatever role you choose, you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis.

Warehouse and Fulfilment Centre volunteers

We need help to weigh, sort and store donated food before it’s made into parcels for clients to collect. The food required for each distribution session is put together at the fulfilment centres, with fresh fruit and veg, bread and eggs being supplied as well, then loaded onto the van for delivery, you can volunteer as a van driver too.

Administration volunteer

Lots of different administration tasks to cover – from answering the phones and monitoring emails to coordinating the referral agencies who book the food parcels for collection, we monitor the vouchers booked and let the different centres know what to get prepared for each session, the vouchers need to be recorded onto the administration systems, donated food needs to be collected and relationships built with the supermarkets and businesses that host collection points for us.  Supermarket collection drives to coordinate and with over 100 volunteers there is administrative work processing applications, rotas and writing newsletters.  We are particularly looking for someone to revamp our social media presence.

Helping at a foodbank centre

Meet clients and give out food parcels. Have an informal chat with clients over a cup of tea, to discuss their situation and signpost to further support.
